The Write Stuff Teaching

Helping Teachers Inspire Learners

Launching Writers Workshop

Launching writers workshop in your classroom but don’t know where to start? I’ve got just the thing to help you make it happen. Beginning anything can be daunting but it seems teaching writing can be just that much more of a leap if you don’t have the right resources to help you start.

What is Writers Workshop?

Writers workshop is a framework that is used to structure the writing time into meaningful parts so that students get the most out of instruction and practice. Spoiler alert: students spend most of the time writing!

I’m a big believer in the writing mindset. If I can instill that in my students from day 1, they become confident little writers. You can read more about the writer’s mindset in this post here.

Launching Writers Workshop

Launching writers workshop is easier than you may think. I have created a totally free resource to help you with the process! I have included:

  • teacher’s notes on set up and materials you may find useful.
Teacher notes on writers workshop
  • a powerpoint that you will use to share the launch with your students.
  • printables to help students develop the writers mindset and brainstorm what they like to write about.

Whether you are new to teaching, new to teaching writers workshop or just looking for a new way to approach writing this year, I encourage you to check out this FREE resource today. Click here to download and be sure to let me know what you think by leaving a review. I use these reviews to help me generate ideas for new resources as well as improving current ones. Thank you my friends!

If you already have a good handle on launching and are just looking for a complete year long curriculum for 2nd and 3rd grade, check this one out.

Here’s what others have to say about this year long writing curriculum:

This is absolutely a fantastic program. Our Reading program is really lacking in the writing portion and this goes step by step to help them become writers. I was able to align this with our reading program and it is very easy to implement. I would definitely recommend to all teachers.

My students have thrived during writing because of the weeklong mentor text. We have something to reference and revisit to help us become better writers. I love love love this resource!!! Lessons are broken down into very friendly chunks. I’m starting the narrative unit next and can’t wait for the stories my students will produce!
