Helping Teachers Inspire Learners

5 Ways to Tell if You Are a Teacher Ambivert

Recently, there’s been lots of talk about Introverts and even the topic of Introverts VS Extroverts. Like in teaching, personalities often don’t just fall into one neat little category. I would have to put myself in the extrovert category if I had to but really can relate to a lot of the peace and solitude of an introvert.

You can imagine how excited I was when I discovered that there is something called an Ambivert which is like a spectrum between introvert and extrovert. I immediately sent the word to my blogger friend Tamara from Mrs.Russell’s Room because I thought she may be able to relate to it too. She sure did! We decided that we might write a blog post sharing our own feelings about how to tell if you are a Teacher Ambivert.  Here are my 5 ideas. Can you see yourself in this post?

1. Teacher Ambiverts love being around people – especially little people but once the day ends, really need peace and quiet. Sometimes, we can’t even drive home with music on because we crave the silence.

2. We can be super animated when they are teaching (because we have to be or we will lose the attention of our students).

but we can also be mellow in our lesson delivery or interactions with kids to calm things down. (We need it as much as the kids!)

3. It doesn’t matter if we are involved in a staff event or collaboration or going it alone in our classroom, we still get the same high results.

4.  Teacher ambiverts love to talk, and talk and talk.  We are the social chatterboxes in the teacher’s lounge.

But we are also quite happy to sit and listen after we have told our stories.

5. At the end of the day, teacher ambiverts have a lot of energy but also can be quite exhausted.  We try really hard to keep it all balanced!

Now head on over to Mrs. Russell’s Room to check out her 5 Ways.
You can check out other teacher posts on related topics: Emily from Education to the Core wrote about Teacher Introverts and Jennifer from Simply Kinder  wrote about Extroverts.  Which one are you, an introvert, and extrovert or an ambivert?

Yes my friend! We start out strong though don't we? Let's do this again when we find something that resonates!

Yup! Every time I take a personality test, I'm on the line between. They're all me. Plus, I am a bit of a perfectionist. I try not to be. But I also identify with type b teachers. Have to make lesson plans, never use them. Etc.

Such an awesome post! I think I may be a teacher ambivert! So glad you wrote this post! Number is me for sure. People often call me to talk after work, and some days I just need some quiet time to myself. I'm a lover of music, and you'll often hear music blasting from my little car, but other days, it's as silent as a library. Number 5 made me laugh because immediately after work, I go to the gym to workout, and I rarely want to because I am exhausted from the days work, but once I'm in there, it's a totally different ball game.

Krystal Thanks so much for your comments. I think this is very relatable for some people. I try to hit the gym after work too…The thought of being on the treadmill after being on my feet all day is not too appealing but you are right. I feel so much better once I'm there and accomplished after I leave. 🙂
